about

The title of this piece is Latin for “ice”, and it aims to portray some of the many forms, phenomena and size scales that frozen water can represent in nature, such as the static calmness of a frozen lake, the rich detail of the smallest structures of frost and snow, the majestic appearance of a big iceberg, glacier or snow-capped mountain, and the destructive power of an avalanche.

As for the instrumentation, this piece is similar to the previous one: two Haken Continuum synthesizers, one of which is acting as a sound processor for the other, doing similar granular resynthesis and pitch shifting. However, this piece uses a different pitch shifting process that also occasionally includes feedback. This is mathematically equivalent to multiplying one musical chord with another chord raised to successive powers higher than one. Contrary to the previous piece, the multiplier chord in this piece is not constant.
