about

This is a recording of a live performance at University of North Carolina at Asheville, NC, USA, at a concert that was part of an international conference for users of Haken Continuum synthesizers. The concert took place on June 10, 2017, in the Lipinsky Hall.

In this piece, two Continuum synthesizers are connected together so that one of them also acts as a sound processor for the other, doing granular resynthesis and pitch shifting. The pitch shifting process is here, in effect, equivalent to mathematically multiplying one musical chord with another. The multiplier chord in this case consists of a unison, a fourth and a fifth.

Effects such as vibrato and glissando are played on the Haken Continuum using similar finger movements as on many string instruments (such as the violin, viola, cello etc.). Although vibrato is generally not used much on this album, it is used in some melodic phrases in this piece.
